Mystery One Bookstore

If you love books, there are two things you need to do. One, support your favorite authors by buying their books. Two, support your local bookstores, especially the independents. We have lovely bookstores in our town, and as an avid reader, I try to frequent most of them. There is nothing so comforting to me as being in a bookstore.

Last night I found a bookstore that had been in my city for over 15 years: Mystery One. Until last night I had never been to Mystery One, but I had heard about it here and there from reader friends of mine. The common theme most people seemed to say about Mystery One was, “it’s small, but they get great authors.” Both those things are true, and neither one is a bad thing!

First, the bookstore IS small. But it’s a cozy setting that really allows for some great conversation. People stand in between the bookshelves and at the counter and it allows for a true dialog, rather than just an author standing there reading while you zone out and think about something else. The owner and employees help the conversation along in a positive way. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute, and plan to go back often. If you’re ever in the Milwaukee area, I encourage you to check it out as well.
