Review: Tales for Delicious Girls

0

I wasn’t sure what to expect with a title like Tales for Delicious Girls by Barbora Knobova. Was this a self-help book? A cautionary tale? A place for the author to lament about her past dating mistakes? Turns out, it’s a little of all of those.

The author seems to address the women who lose themselves when dating a guy and those who continually put up with things they shouldn’t. On page 4 she says:

Let’s try to love ourselves unconditionally; let’s protect ourselves and everything that belongs to us. Let’s not conform to the needs, ideas and demands of relationships in which we cannot be ourselves and in which we don’t even recognize ourselves anymore.

The book consists mainly of short chapters that detail a different “mistake” from a woman. The author starts with the book with her tale of a guy she was into who turned out to be engaged without her realizing it. Then she continues with other tales like this and also shares some from women she knows.
If you’re frustrated with dating and have made similar mistakes, Tales for Delicious Girls will give you plenty of commiseration. It won’t, however, give you detailed or useful information on how to get past any of this or prevent yourself from doing it again. It will probably make you feel better that other women have made the same mistakes as you, and perhaps that is enough.

One thing you’re probably asking by now is, what exactly is a “delicious girl”? The author defines it as:

D for daring
E for enchanting
L for loving
I for inspiring
C for captivating
I for intriguing
O for outgoing
U for unique
S for sophisticated

Another unique element of this book is plenty of artistic illustrations that should help you get into the “delicious” spirit of this book. The best audience for this book? Someone right out of a break up.
