Heat Wave by Rick Castle
Want a great way to promote your book? Get an hour long TV commercial for it each and every week. Of course, not every writer can afford to do that, but Rick Castle can.
Then again, Rick Castle isn’t real. But his book, Heat Wave (Nikki Heat), is climbing up the charts, in part because his show is extremely popular on ABC. I mentioned on my personal blog a few months ago that Castle was my new favorite show, in part because it is about a writer. The fun part about this show is sometimes real writers make an appearance. The other fun part is that the writer is very cool and funny and has a lot of money (playing into the legend that all writers are loaded). But the real story is that this fictional writer has a hit book in real life.
Check out this fun promo, which talks about the book. They even have Stephen J. Cannell and Michael Connelly to add credibility:
Very cool, right? Imagine if this was your book.
As you heard on the video, the writer, Rick Castle, has a character named Nikki Heat based on another character on the show, Kate Beckett. Beckett is a cop that has become the inspiration for Nikki Heat. The interesting part is that the writers of the show (or producers) saw a marketing opportunity and went for it. People are actually buying this book. (And I may be one of them next!) Not all of us will have opportunities like this, of course, but it’s always great to hear how people are selling their books, isn’t it?
