Review: The Big Picture – Essential Business Lessons from the Movies

Book title: The Big Picture: Essential Business Lessons from the Movies

First let me say that I enjoyed the originality and creativity in The Big Picture: Essential Business Lessons from the Movies. Too often business books can be so dry that the overall nugget gets lost. Not this book. It makes you feel as if you’ve spent a day hanging out and chatting with a friend about your favorite flicks. Obviously, the authors love movies, which shows in the character and film knowledge they display.

The sections are divided up into sections, or “takes” in reference to a director calling action with his clapboard. I found the book well organized and hitting on many key business points today. Each bit of advice is tied to a plot point, dialog, quote, or general overall feel of a particular movie. Some of the business lessons are a stretch, but I believe overall that professionals will find inspiration and wisdom in much of what the book has to say. Best of all, there are plenty of real-life examples as well, which makes this book useful as well as entertaining. You want your staff to “get it” without having to roll their eyes at your suggestion of reading material? The Big Picture: Essential Business Lessons from the Movies should do the trick.

  1. Thanks for the great review of Kevin and Michael’s book. It has been very popular during their virtual book tour. I also enjoyed how it was different from the typical business book. Some reviewers have even said there are life lessons to be found within its pages.

Thanks again. I’m glad you enjoyed the book.
