Seven Things Which Make a Blogger Unique
Guest post by David Smith
Thousand of blogs are being created every day. Blogosphere is growing at an exponential rate and millions of pages of content are being added to it every day. That said getting successful in blogging has become a kind of next to impossible task. But should we stop? I don’t think so. Competition is everywhere. Everyone wants to get successful, everyone wants to be at the top, and everyone wants the same thing that it makes everything so hard. But that is how the life is.
You can’t expect to stand out from the rest by doing the same thing what millions of others are doing. You can’t expect to achieve big goals by putting the same amount of efforts that others are putting into it. To be unique you need to do things in a unique way. So, what is the recipe to be unique? Frankly speaking, I don’t know exactly. (Have you heard about me before this article? ). But still in this article I’m going to cover some of the important factors which according to me play a major role in making a blogger unique.
Design / Theme of your blog – How does your blog looks like? By making your design unique from the rest of the blogs in your niche is the easiest way to grab the attention of your visitors and to stand out from the rest of the crowd. Design is the first thing which attracts user attention (even before your content) and if your blog looks similar to the other blogs of your niche then you are giving the wrong signals to your visitors. Try to have a unique visual appearance (but not on the cost of usability) which can help your visitors to remember you for a longer period of time.
Subject – What you are writing about is the another thing that makes you unique. Yes, it’s hard to find a unique subject these days but I believe that there are lots of things which are yet to be explored. Split the topics of your interest in to sub-topics and then write about it. It is comparatively easy to get popular in small niches as compared to big niches. For e.g. – If getting popular in SEO niche is difficult, then just write about link building at the start. If you are interested in handmade crafts then you can start with wooden crafts only until you build a loyal readership.
Writing style- By writing style I doesn’t mean about language and grammar. It’s about how you express yourself. How you interact with your audience through your content. Everybody has a different writing style. So please stick to it. Avoid copying the styles of others.
Unique Viewpoint- No matter what you are writing about, you will not be the only blogger who is covering that topic. Here comes the importance of your way of looking at the things. Make your opinions as unique (not possible all the time) as possible from the rest of your community so that your reader enjoys reading it.
Quantity and quality – There are two kind of bloggers – One who’ve lot to say (Not sure but I think they’ve an endless list of topics they can write about) and others (majority of bloggers) who don’t update their blog so frequently. Reader likes the former because they get something new to read every day and they also like the latter because they eagerly wait for their content (Obviously, the content should be of high quality). The frequency at which you post and what you post also helps in making you unique from the rest of other.
Relation with other bloggers – How many contacts do you have in your niche? How many of them talk about you. More will be the number of connections you have, more is the probability of standing out from the rest of the crowd.
Zeal to help – How far can you go to help your readers? How much do you care about the community? To stand out from the rest of the crowd you should have the zeal to help your community.
These were the seven things which I think help a blogger to be unique. Do you know about other factors which you think should be added in the list? Please, feel free to share them in the comments below.

I’m in love with my new design, and at the same time I threw in a Typepad to WordPress transfer. Some of my reader comments went missing in the new design, but it I don’t regret it. The changes improved my blog and made it shine.
