Working Writers Quote: Havelock Ellis
As writers, we often look at the imperfections of life as our inspiration. I love that. After all, what in life is really perfect? Besides that, it isn’t the perfect characters that are the most interesting, it’s the flawed ones. The ones that really need to get over it, or get on with it, or shut up, or speak up! Whatever their flaw, characters we hope will change or want to find true love or whatever else they are struggling with are the ones that hold our attention.
I especially like a book that has a ton of odd characters and events, and yet it feels… perfect. You know what I mean? Where even though the people and situations are quirky, somehow it all comes together and works. That’s why I loved this quote so much:
“The absence of flaw in beauty is itself a flaw.”
― Havelock Ellis
It’s so true! Something too perfect isn’t perfect at all.
