Interview: Maureen Fitzgerald

Want to know what a blogging brand ambassador does? Maureen Fitzgerald will tell you more about it! Enjoy her interview.

I like your site, Wisconsin Mommy, and noticed you are a local brand ambassador for Swift Beef. Tell us what a brand ambassador does and how your blog helps get the word out.

Thanks for the kind words about my blog. A brand ambassador is kind of like an internet spokesperson for a specific brand. I agree to highlight their product in exchange for a supply of the product as well as some monetary compensation. Often, they will reference my blog or quote me on their site as well. It’s a win/win, as I pull some readers from their site, and my readers get to learn more about a brand they might not have checked out on their own.

You are currently working on a book for other mom bloggers. Tell us about it.

I am launching my book this weekend (finally!). It is called the Beginning Blogger’s Blueprint and is a step by step guide for those who would like to begin a blog that can make them money, but don’t have a background in marketing or technology. When I first started blogging, I had been working in education for the past decade and my internet skills barely covered sending an email or doing online shopping. I did a lot of research and learned through trial and error. I took everything I have learned and broke it down into easy steps that anyone can follow. While my book is perfect for moms looking to start a side business, anyone can benefit from the information it provides. The website is www.beginningbloggersblueprint.com (the domain may not be active until the 29th as it was just forwarded – if you publish before then, you can list the site as www.thebloggingblueprint.com) .

What’s the most interesting book you’ve ever read?

Most interesting book I ever read? Hmm. That’s hard since I have so many favorites and they are all so different. I am fascinated by Napoleon Hill’s Think and Grow Rich. The philosophy it puts forward is so different than what we are taught growing up. I love reading books that make me think outside my box!

Book you’re currently reading?

Currently I am re-reading Atlas Shrugged. My favorite author is Madeleine L’Engle. She wrote so many different types of books: children’s, adult’s, science fiction, novels. She was just such a fascinating lady. (And lived in my home state of Connecticut)

In your opinion, what’s the measure of a successful writer?

What is the measure of a successful writer? My short answer would be one that is able find pleasure in writing. Really, I shy away from the term “successful” because I think it means so many different things to different people. Society tends to attach money to success, and therefore doesn’t consider a writer “successful” unless their writing is bringing in money. Personally, I know plenty of writers who take great joy in the writing process, even if no one ever reads their work. To me, that is still success.

Where can we learn more about you?

You can learn more about me on my blog, for sure. I have an about me page that tells a little about how I got into blogging. And while my gift guide is taking up most of December’s posts, I normally do put quite a few personal stories on there. I also pop up on Live at Daybreak (WTMJ) from time to time and will be on Real Milwaukee (WITI) this Tuesday morning at 9:15. Otherwise, I’m often at the local events I write about and love it when people come up and say hi!
