You Left Me, Sweet, Two Legacies by Emily Dickinson

Ah, Emily Dicksinson… some days just call for her words. I like to include poetry on Saturdays here, and from time to time post a classic poem (or one of the ones you send in! or one of mine!) here. Poetry can really open up the other areas of your writing, even blogging. So try to read a bunch of different poets and find the one you like. (You will, I promise.)

One of my favorites is Emily Dickinson, so here is her “You Left Me, Sweet, Two Legacies.”

You Left Me, Sweet, Two Legacies

You left me, sweet, two legacies,–
A legacy of love
A Heavenly Father would content,
Had He the offer of;

You left me boundaries of pain
Capacious as the sea,
Between eternity and time,
Your consciousness and me.
