I love quotes from writers, and every once in a while I come across one that I like to share. This one involves a great writer, a lovely thought, and a favorite food.

Most people that read this blog are writers, but don’t you think most writers are also readers? I sure do. That’s why I really liked this quote, from Kathleen Norris.

I usually have a “to be read” pile that is miles high! I like to have a variety right next to my bed, so I can pick and choose my books depending on what mood I’m in. I think enjoying a variety of books can help you grow and also help you as a writer. They say that writers read differently than the average person, and I really believe this. I think we instinctively look at things like voice and dialog.

So tell me, do you agree with this quote:

If it’s one thing that irritates me, it is writers who do not help each other.  Writers, please, we are all in this together!  It doesn’t help you to put down other writers, trash their work, or try and sabotage them.  It really doesn’t.  To that end, I found this excellent quote:

It is literally true that you can succeed best and quickest by helping others to succeed.

I have to admit, I’m not such a huge fan of Woody Allen‘s movies, but as a writer, I admire his longevity. I also saw this quote from him that I think is very applicable to writers:

“Eighty percent of success is showing up.”
― Woody Allen

This quote makes me think of the freelancing life, where part of the success is simply being out there and not giving up. Building clients and a successful business can take time, and having the confidence to just “show up” is part of the battle.
